Honoring Our Nurse Care Managers!

We celebrate National Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2016. During this week (and the whole month of May), we applaud our nurse care managers at Debra Levy Eldercare Associates (DLEA) and the vital work they do for our clients each day.

Our nurse care managers at DLEA deliver expert Aging Life Care™ Management work. They perform assessments, gather medical information, provide oversight and medication management, coordinate care with doctors and other health care professionals, and supervise home health care workers (GNA’s and CNA’s, among others). Our nurses are compassionate, caring, and skilled at what they do. They work hand in hand with our social worker care managers especially in cases where our clients have dementia or mental health challenges coupled with complex health issues. Nurses are vital to our work of Aging Life Care!

Nurses are extremely dedicated and love their work and so we wanted to share what our five nurses love about their chosen profession. Here’s what they had to say:

Jane Barnes: Being a nurse gives me an opportunity to connect with people on a very personal level. How many times does a conversation begin by saying, “You’re a nurse, I can talk to you about this.” I can’t imagine doing anything else that gives so much meaning to my life as being a nurse.

Kim Picca: Nursing is a gift which allows me to really listen to my clients and their families. Often, the obvious challenges are not the only issues. By establishing trust and getting to know a person’s story, we can dig deeper to determine what brings the individual meaning. Health is comprised of so many different aspects of life that the options for advocacy and improvement are really limitless. I love the variety that nursing and care management bring to my days, and the chance to connect with those I serve.

Jennifer Sherwood: What I love about nursing is the people and clients I have the opportunity to meet and serve. I get to help them and equally they enrich my life and broaden my knowledge and perspective.

April Hardinge: I love meeting people’s needs and if they are having trouble I love it when we can do something to improve their life and make things better for them.

Nurses are unique and special people, and we celebrate them for their hard work and loving care. We are pleased to say that we have some of the best nurses in the business on our staff at DLEA!
